Web 2.0 sucks (according to this guy)

Charlie O’Donnel writes 10 reasons on why web 2.0 sucks. I try to summarize and comment them here, hoping to understand well what is saying.

  1. Fear to freely express, you may get sued, fired or else.
My comment: big problem, we have to fight for freedom of speech.
  2. Too many people focused on building technologies.
My comment: if I understand right, this is a problem of competence in project and implement a website or service. Not really new.
  3. The mobile world is still far away.
    My comment: right, too expensive.
  4. Tech people are talking to tech people, nobody else is participating.
My comment: maybe through, but not geo-limited to the Valley.
  5. Spelling and grammar.
My comment: this blog contributes to the bad English diffusion… True, but lot of people are writing. How many teens were writing 15 years ago?
  6. Big companies are buying small 2.0 startups and will kill not understanding the opportunities.
My comment: yeah, don’t know what to do.
  7. Open content is not really open.
My comment: as in 1, we have to fight and diffuse open culture.
  8. Interesting content is still closed.
My comment: see above. Fight fight fight.
  9. Powerful people do not participate.
My comment: they won’t be powerful if they do not participate. Anyway, things will change very slowly.
  10. MySpace is the most popular social network. Is really this the best we can do?
My comment: no, good things are few. That’s why they’re good.

My contribute? We must pay attention to the big digital divide that web 2.0 is creating between not connected people,  connected people and the monitoring citizen (from G. Granieri, Blog generation).
Why do I blog this (©N. Nova)? I appreciated the fact that someone is trying to stop the hype and think about web 2.0. Maybe something is wrong or something is missing, but I think that they are worth reading.
